Ash Dieback Implications for Stara Community Woodlands
With the increasing risks posed by ash dieback disease, we have had a professional safety survey undertaken of a small section of Treovis Wood which is dominated by mature ash trees. Because of the presence of the footpath, the risk of harm increases so we need to weigh up the options carefully. Doing nothing is not an option so currently we are considering the following , none of which are ideal:
1. Paying for expensive remedial tree surgery to remove the dangerous trees (a temporary solution as more trees are likely to become unsafe over time)
2. Moving the footpath away from the trees (Quite a steep route which will take time to construct)
3. Closing off this section of the wood so that members of the public are no longer at risk
We probably have the resources to undertake option one but cannot commit to this level of expenditure every 12 – 24months (which will be inevitable) Our discussions are ongoing.
